Call for Contributions: The Reformation 500 years

The Yearbook of the Finnish Society of Church History 2016

The Reformation: 500 Years

The year 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The Finnish Society of Church History is now calling for writers to contribute to the yearbook of 2016. The theme of the yearbook is Reformation and its impact, and we invite discussion of the theme from various perspectives. How and why did the Reformation begin and what were its consequences? How did the upheavals of the 16th century affect the Catholic Church? Recent scholarship has entertained the concept of the ‘long Reformation’, but what does that mean? How gendered is the historiography of the Reformation; what was the role of women in what has been largely labeled as a men’s project? In what ways has the Reformation been interpreted by posterity?

The Yearbook of the FSCH is a traditional journal of church history published since 1919. It contains peer-reviewed articles, overviews of contemporary issues, and reviews. The yearbook’s release date is 19th of January 2017, the Society’s annual festival and the feast of Saint Henry (Henricus). The publication of the book thus opens the jubilee year of the Reformation.

We welcome scholarly articles (max. 65.000 characters including spaces), surveys and reports (max. 10.000 characters including spaces) as well as book, film, exhibition and other culture reviews (max. 6.000 characters including spaces). You may attach images (e.g. photographs or tables) to the articles, surveys and reports. We accept submissions in Finnish, Swedish and English. If you wish to write in another language, please contact the editors.

Please send an abstract of your proposed article to the editor-in-chief Piia Latvala (piia.latvala @ gmail.com) by 30th September, 2015. The abstract should explain what is new about the article, whether it be the source material, method or perspective. Everyone who has submitted a proposal will be informed of the result by the end of October. The deadline for the accepted articles is 15th April, 2016, after which they go through a referee process.

If you wish to submit a survey, a report or a review, please contact Olli Lampinen-Enqvist (olli.lampinen @ helsinki.fi) as soon as possible but by the end of 2015 at the latest.
